Les Misérables

Back in the day, lets say 1862 Victor Hugo wrote a novel called Les Misérables. Fast forward to 1985 and this widely known novel becomes a musical. It is in fact one of my favorite musicals. It has been showing on stages worldwide for the better part of 21 years now. A few years ago there was a movie of Les Misérables released that was nothing more than a concert style, in costume, performance of the musical. The version of CATS that went straight to video was better than that. Listening to it was beautiful. Watching it however, was one of the most boring things I've ever experienced. So my question is when is it going to be that we finally get so see a movie-musical of this show.

Other shows of comparable popularity have already been done such as The Phantom Of The Opera and Rent. They have done quite well in the box office and even better as DVDs. I know that movies have been made adapting Les Misérables to the screen but none of them have been the musical. So I'm just curious as to why not make a "major" motion picture. I'm reminded of field of dreams, "If you build it they will come."

Ooh - what a terrific idea! And, while we're at it, let's just have an on-screen version of Wicked too!! :)
